University Controller
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applications and nominations for an accomplished and experienced individual to serve as Controller of the university. The Controller serves as the chief accounting officer of the university and is responsible for the management and oversight of the university’s accounting functions and financial policies. This position is a key member of the university’s financial leadership team and has primary responsibility for directing the fiscal operations of the university in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and maintaining policies and procedures which support the university’s mission. The Controller provides the leadership and supervision of the Business Services office which has a team of 23 employees, including five direct reports, in the areas of General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cashier’s Office (Bursar), Risk Management, Purchasing, Travel, and Contracts. The successful candidate will be committed to improving the university‘s business processes and providing outstanding service to campus stakeholders. The Controller reports to the Vice Chancellor for Administration & Finance. A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration is required for the Controller position. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly desirable and a CPA is preferred. Candidates should possess a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial management in higher education.
