Veterinary Technician (Instruction and Classroom Support)
Yakima Valley College seeks an Instructional & Classroom Support Technician 1 to join our Veterinary Technology Program. The Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1 position is a cyclic, working 9 - months, full-time classified position; with Leave Without Pay (LWOP) mid-June to mid- September of each year. Beginning salary is $3,067.00 per month for 40 hours per week, with periodic increments up to $4,083, plus a full state benefits package. Reporting to the Director - Workforce Education, the Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1 will perform a variety of tasks on-site in support of the Veterinary Technology Program and faculty. The Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1 will demonstrate they are professionally interested in monitoring and assisting students served by the Veterinary Technology Program to facilitate student success. Under general supervision, the successful incumbent will work in collaboration with college department faculty, administrators and staff members; and perform work that requires knowledge of animal handling, lab and medical procedures, materials, equipment and other duties as assigned. Additionally, we are seeking a candidate who demonstrates a strong promise as a contributing member of the Workforce Education Division. Duties are performed in a Veterinary Technology lab environment. |

ESSENTIAL TASKS: | |

This position performs the following tasks on-site:

KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Microsoft Office Suite Software
- USDA and AVMA requirements
- Safety procedures in handling hazardous materials such as disinfectants, pesticides, etc
- Procedures including anesthesia, dental cleaning, dental radiographs, and surgical preparations
- Typical veterinary subject areas include restraint, common laboratory procedures, small animal dentistry, small animal anesthesia, and clinical procedures, etc
ABILITY TO:
- Work collaboratively and effectively in a college environment, establish and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and community partners
- Be onsite to prepare, maintain, repair, and operate the appropriate machine and hand tools
- Be onsite to help care for and maintain the animal ward
- Demonstrate and perform typical veterinary technician procedures and restraints involving animals in a veterinary setting
- Remain current with Veterinary Technology Continuing Education to maintain licensure
- Use essential skill criteria in student evaluations; communicate with other staff members and faculty to ensure consistency and proper understanding
- Use safety procedures in handling hazardous materials such as disinfectants, pesticides, etc.
- follow oral and written instructions; must be organized and detail-oriented
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to independently move equipment and/or patients up to 50lbs & move equipment and/or patients more than 50lbs with the assistance of others.
- Must be able to stand, and walk for prolonged and considerable amounts of time.
- Must be able to routinely reach, stoop, bend, kneel and crouch while performing duties of the position
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Washington Licensed Veterinary Technician or eligible for Washington licensing exam. The successful applicant must obtain license within 6 months.
- Two years of full-time equivalent experience in a veterinary clinical environment
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an AVMA or CVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program
- Five years of full-time equivalent veterinary clinical experience as an LVT, working directly with small animals and equine
- Experience working in an education environment
